Pewter Care

Some handy pointers on caring for your pewter item to help you keep it in tip-top condition.

Here are a couple of quick tips to care for your pewter items:

You should not keep alcoholic drinks in pewter for more than 24 hours, and you should not put carbonated drinks in pewter vessels. Pewter can be stained by certain food stuffs, notably citrus juice and types of salad dressings. It is advisable to wash your vessel after use.

Always line your pewter with glass or plastic if you intend to use it for plants or flowers.

Pewter objects should never be placed inside an oven, on a hot plate or near hot flames as pewter melts at a relatively low temperature compared to other metals. Due to this, it is recommended they are not used for hot drinks such as tea or coffee.

To wash your pewter items it is advisable that you should do so by hand in warm soapy water. They should not be placed in the dishwasher due to the high temperature and harsh detergents normally used.
